London Weekend

Dec 2014

We’ve returned from a great weekend in London. A show, shopping and sightseeing.

The show was “The Jersey Boys” at the Piccadilly Theatre that tells the life of Frankie Valli with great rock n roll music from start to finish and wonderful performances from the cast.

The next day we were dropped off in Park Lane for the day and wandered on a sightseeing tour; first through Green Park to Buckingham Palace.

We timed it well as the guardsmen were cantering down The Mall as we set off.

Then to Parliament Square with Churchill’s Statue

From there to Downing Street, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square,

There was a curious blue chicken in the square too

We also passed Piccadilly Circus with Eros but were on the wrong side of the road to get close. It was then time for shopping so we all walked north along Charing Cross Road to Oxford Street. It’s supposed to be the best shopping place in the world and I found no reason to doubt it. We had lunch then at a place near Carnaby Street and Liberty of London.

After lunch, onward with the shopping re-starting in Liberty’s. The shop was a treat, it looked the same on the inside as it does outside, lots of wood and galleries and interesting stock. More shopping then in Regent Street before turning off to see Berkeley Square where one of the statues of Paddington Bear has been set up. It may have been him who has scared off the nightingales from Berkeley Square. He’s not alone though, I believe that there are another dozen of them scattered around London; I can guess that one of them will be in Paddington Station.

As we got back to the coach in Park Lane we were blocked by a demonstration against ISIS by Shiite Muslims. It’s they of course who are being killed by the fundamentalist Sunnies. There were a lot of women in the march, It was good to see that.

The march passed and we then crossed Park Lane and walked to the coach park all tired but happy when we finally flopped into our seats.
One last cheerful picture of a tree in Berkeley Sq. Perhaps a Nightingale’s roost.
