The Access Lid Appreciation Foundation or A.L.A.F. for short has been founded.
I have decided to entertain myself by photographing what used to be called manhole covers but are called by many other names these days. Access portals? Access covers? Inspection covers? Maintenance access doors? Hole covers? Street Covers? Covers? Lids? Access and Egress points?
I am going to use Access Lids as that seems to be the best description.
I hope to encourage many others to do the same so that there will be a record of these important but sadly neglected important features of our lives.
Just think for a moment about where you grew up; if you go back today is it the same as when you left? No it won’t be, it will have been through many changes of house improvements, garden changes, trees having grown or gone, grass gone or regrown, pavements relaid, lamposts replaced. There is one constant though; in most places the Access lids for the various services running underground will still be in their original position, still being walked over and driven over after decades of existence and still fit for intended use. Don’t ignore them, record them for A.L.A.F. and post them on social media so they will live on forever.
For clarity do give a little information about where they are even if it’s only a city and put the month and year you took the photograph.
